In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
Council continues to participate in the Davidson School Scholarship program, providing a scholarship to a graduating student who has displayed school and community leadership and volunteerism.
The Town continues to support the Lakeshore Stampede Rodeo by being a chute sponsor at this annual event.
Council remains engaged in ongoing discussions with our MLA and MP to advocate for consistent funding for infrastructure, health care, and housing. Additionally, Council recently met with the Ministry of Highways to explore potential solutions for Enterprise Lane.
The Town has initiated a meeting with SHA along with the Town of Craik, and the RM’s of Willner, Arm River, and Craik, to discuss physician shortage and its impact on our communities, with the goal of working collaboratively on solutions.
Council, EMO, and Fire Department representatives recently gathered to review and update the emergency weather response procedures.
Council met to review our Strategic Plan and establish priorities, which include housing needs and opportunities, upgrading Enterprise Lane, repairing and updating sewer lines, and health care services.
2. Infrastructure
In response to ongoing concerns with the Town’s water pressure, Council approved a proposal from Municipal Utilities to permit the programming of pump operations at the water treatment plant and tower valve controls to achieve more optimal water pressure. The proposal came in at $111,985 + taxes.
Council chose to install propane heat in the landfill building. The landfill is expected to re-open mid-April. Special arrangements can be made to access the landfill by contacting the Town Office. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
The Town has initiated a yearly inspection routine for the grader and skid steer.
3. Economic Development
Council engaged Matthewson & Co. to develop a Community Economic Development Plan for our community. This process will begin with a quality-of-life survey of residents and businesses to identify key priorities. Community participation will be essential to driving this economic development initiative forward.
