In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
Council continues to participate in the Davidson School Scholarship program, providing a scholarship to a graduating student who has displayed school and community leadership and volunteerism.
The Davidson Health Centre has been added to the Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive program for high-priority health care positions, as a result of advocacy efforts by local health care workers, the R.M. and Town Councils, and our MLA.
The 2025 audit is now complete, and the full report will be posted on the Town’s website under “Public Notices.”
Mayor LePoudre, Councillor Stangland, and Administrator Jess attended the SUMA Convention, where they had the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the province, with regional cooperation emerging as a key focus.
Infrastructure
Council authorized the purchase of two pallets cold mix pothole repair from Western Asphalt.
The 2026–27 Municipal Revenue Sharing grant has increased from $309,778 to $337,341. This provincial funding supports ongoing infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects.
Council approved repairs to the ball shed north of the AGT Centre, including new shingles, metal siding, and an overhead door, at a total cost of $10,260 plus taxes.
Economic Development
As part of the Strategic Plan process, Council identified three key priorities: Strengthening Housing Development, Expanding Essential Services, and Enhancing Communication & Transparency. Implementation plans have now been received from the consultant, and Council committees will review them and establish deliverables over the coming year.
Recreation and Cultural Programs
Work on the Library elevator project and related renovations is scheduled to begin in early May. While there may be minor adjustments to programming, the library will remain open and operating as usual for the most part.
In 2026-27 the Town received an allocation of $16,218 from Sask Lotteries to support local sport, culture and recreation projects. Thank you to the local residents that were a part of the adjudicating committee, allocating funds to the following groups: Central Sask Music Festival, Davidson Health Centre, Davidson Avengers Cricket, Davidson Junior Cyclones, Davidson Junior Rec Hockey, Davidson Public Library, Davidson Skatepark Committee, and Little Acres Learning Centre.
Council approved amendments to the Recreation & Culture Committee mandate, and the Committee held its biannual user group meeting on March 24th.
Davidson Days return June 19-21. Added events this year: pickleball, car show, and multicultural food trucks. Watch for more details on the Town Facebook page and in the Davidson Leader. Come out and celebrate our community with us!
