August 2026 Council’s Corner

In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication.  Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:

1. Engagement, Communications and Team Work

• Living Tree Environmental completed the Town’s comprehensive Dutch Elm Disease (DED) survey in July, with the report presented to Council in August. The survey is conducted every two years, and this year, four trees were identified and tested positive for DED. The survey also identified one violation related to the storage of elm firewood, which is prohibited under provincial legislation. Residents are reminded that pruning elm trees is prohibited in Saskatchewan from April 1 to August 31 to help prevent the spread of Dutch Elm Disease.
• Gourlay & Associates has been contracted to provide remote bylaw enforcement services for the Town, with an initial focus on the Noise, Nuisance, and Animal Control Bylaws.
• Thank you to the community for your patience and understanding throughout the Library Accommodations Project. The project is anticipated to be completed in early September, with normal Library operations resuming shortly thereafter.

2. Infrastructure

• Four circulation pumps at the Panther Pool will be replaced this fall at a cost of $3,098 per pump plus install and electrical. Funding for this unbudgeted project will come from the Pool Reserve.
• The Case tractor has been listed for sale through McDougall Auction.
• Paving work for this year is now complete. We thank the residents of Herman Crescent for their patience and cooperation while the paving work was underway.

3. Economic Development

• A contractor is installing signs along the designated sign corridor south of Town on Highway #11. Applications for businesses interested in participating are available at the Town Office.

4. Recreation and Cultural Programs

• Council renewed the agreement with the Hanley School of Dance to provide programming space in the Library basement.
• Fall Friendship Night is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, providing an opportunity to celebrate our community, meet your neighbours, and welcome those who are new to Davidson. Community members are invited to join the organizing committee by contacting Dave at 306-567-2908.
• Davidson Recognition Awards – nominations for Citizen of the Year, Youth Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, and Organization of the Year will be accepted beginning September 1^st until October 14^th. Nomination forms are available at the Town Office, Davidson Library, or visit the Town website to download the forms.  Awards will be presented at the Fall Friendship Night October 21^st.
