In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication.  Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:

1. Engagement, Communications and Team Work

• Working with our Bylaw Enforcement Officer, the Town has developed a new Noise Bylaw, which was adopted by Council at the September meeting. The new bylaw brings our regulations up to date with current legislation.
• The Town will be taking a break from hosting Fall Friendship Night this year; however, community recognition awards will still be presented. Nominations for Citizen of the Year, Youth Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, and Organization of the Year will be accepted until October 14th. Nomination forms are available at the Town Office and Davidson Library, or can be downloaded from the Town’s website.

2. Infrastructure

• Sewer relining will continue this year, with New Line Trenchless Technologies awarded the contract to reline 707 metres of sewer main beginning in early October. Using the “cured-in-place pipe” method, this work allows us to rehabilitate deep underground infrastructure without excavation, extending the service life of the sewer mains by more than 50 years. The total budget for this project is $250,000.
• It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas—not quite yet, but the Town has ordered 14 new Christmas lights for our streetlights! We look forward to installing these lighter, brighter, more energy efficient LED lights throughout the downtown core this winter.
• New eavestroughing will be installed along the west side of the library, along with snow stops on both sides of the building.

3. Economic Development

• Due to the positive response to the sign corridor south of Town along Highway 11, Council has approved additional funding to allow for five more signs to be installed this fall.

4. Recreation and Cultural Programs

• The new score clock at the AGT Centre has been installed! We’re sure you’ll notice the upgrade when the upcoming rink season gets underway.
• Additional upgrades at the rink that have been completed or are underway include painting the interior and exterior of the curling rink, relocating the janitor’s room to the former skate sharpening room to create a dedicated girls’ changeroom, installing motion-sensor lights in the curling and lounge washrooms, and adding a folding gate to restrict access to portions of the curling lobby and washrooms when not in use. The Town is also exploring options for a privacy wall for the girls’ changeroom.
• Council has approved the Saskatchewan Cricket Association’s plans to proceed with landscaping work for a new cricket pitch this fall.
