In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
1. Engagement, Communications and Team Work
Council reviewed several amendments to The Municipalities Act, including the requirement that municipalities must offer orientation training to council members within 120 days after each general election.
The Town continues to work with the Ministry of Highways on the Highway 11/Enterprise Lane project. The Ministry is coordinating with all affected parties, and the project remains scheduled for 2027.
The Town continues to work with the Bylaw Enforcement Officer and is taking steps to establish the ability to prosecute municipal bylaw offences through the provincial court system.
Infrastructure
The concrete pad for the cemetery columbarium has been poured, with the columbarium delivery anticipated later this year, weather permitting.
Council approved the purchase of 3 or 4 cement barriers to place around the new lift station generator.
The drainage report for the King Edward/Third Street area has been received, and the project is now considered “shovel ready.” Council will review the findings and consider next steps, including potential grant funding opportunities.
Economic Development
Council and Administration continue to explore the community’s need for additional rental housing and potential opportunities to address that need.
Recreation and Cultural Programs
A big thank you to Gord Cross for taking the time to learn how to operate the new score clock at the AGT Centre and for being willing to share that knowledge with others. We recognize that learning a new system can take some adjustment and appreciate Gord stepping up to help make the transition easier for the hockey community.
Thank you to the Davidson JAA for offering to purchase a new washing machine for the AGT Centre. This is a generous contribution that will help keep team jerseys clean and fresh throughout the season!
Painting of the inside and outside of the curling rink is now complete.
Council has engaged Crosby Hanna to develop a Recreation Site Concept Plan and Grading Proposal, with the first phase focusing on Diamond #2 and the north side of the AGT Centre. Midwest Surveys has also been contracted to complete the required topographical survey.
If you have questions or would like more information on any of these projects, please contact the Town Office.
