July 2026 Council’s Corner

In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication.  Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:

 Engagement, Communications and Team Work

• The Town was notified that its application to the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund was unsuccessful. The proposed project included relining sewer mains, upgrading the sewer force main from the lift station to the lagoon, upsizing two sections of sewer main, and increasing the lift station’s pump capacity. The total project cost was estimated at $9,724,741, with potential funding of up to $7,131,152 through the program. While the project met the program’s eligibility requirements, funding was limited and not all eligible projects could be supported. Council will consider whether to re-apply should another intake become available.
• Council reviewed the Cemetery Bylaw and passed a motion to maintain the existing standards and requirements outlined in the bylaw.
• Council awarded the Railway Street commercial land tender to Riverbend Co-op.
• Council has proclaimed September 21 – 27, 2026 as Rail Safety Week.
• Council has sent a letter of support for the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, asking the Federal Government to reconsider the future of the Snowbirds Aerobatic Team.

      2.Infrastructure

• Work continues at the Davidson Cemetery, including the removal of trees that have grown over or around monuments. Frontier Monuments has also been contracted to begin leveling and straightening monuments. In addition, Council has approved the purchase of a 64-niche columbarium to expand the cemetery’s interment options.

3. Economic Development

• A contractor has been hired to begin installing signs along the designated sign corridor south of Town on Highway #11. Applications for businesses interested in participating are available at the Town Office. In 2026, the Town will also undertake a cleanup of outdated signs in the ditch, work with owners of existing signs to ensure they meet the new requirements, and begin installing new signs. The sign corridor has capacity for up to 25 signs promoting local businesses.
• Council has approved the installation of a new community map sign near the Coffee Pot. The sign will feature a map of Davidson, with local businesses having the opportunity to have their business name and location included.

4. Recreation and Cultural Programs

• The swimming season is coming to an end, with the final day of the season being Friday, August 28. Be sure to stop by the Panther Pool for one last swim and join us in wishing our lifeguards all the best as they head back to school in September!
• Council approved the Recreation Committee’s recommendation to purchase a new score clock for the AGT Centre from Nevco Scoreboard Company Ltd. at a cost of $19,368.78 plus applicable taxes. The new score clock is expected to arrive in time for the upcoming rink season.
• A new griddle and two deep fryers have been ordered for the AGT Centre kitchen.
• Council has approved a three-season agreement with Canadian Arena Services to manage operations at the AGT Centre. Their responsibilities will include ice maintenance, janitorial services, and facility scheduling. Canadian Arena Services has worked with the Town previously, installing the ice at the AGT Centre last season and providing valuable training and support to Town staff. This partnership will provide additional expertise and support to help ensure the AGT Centre continues to provide a well-maintained and welcoming facility for the community. Canadian Arena Services will be hiring staff for the upcoming season, and anyone interested in employment is encouraged to contact the Town Office for more information.
