In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
We continue to receive concerns regarding dogs running at large within the community. The Town has been exploring a number of options to address these issues, including animal control and/or bylaw enforcement officers, and discussions with the RCMP. As a reminder, all dogs are required to be registered with the Town and must be kept on their owner’s property, or on a leash at all times when off property. Thank you for helping keep our community safe and respectful for everyone.
Accessibility upgrades are now underway at the library. This project has been made possible through funding support from the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund, along with contributions from the Library Board, the Legion, and the Town. Please contact the library regarding any temporary programming changes or schedule adjustments during construction.
Representatives from Town Council continue to work collaboratively with the RM’s of Willner and Arm River, meeting with SHA to advocate for improved services to our community.
Through the Canada Summer Jobs program, we were able to secure funding support for several summer positions. We would like to welcome all of our summer staff joining the Public Works, Recreation, and Panther Pool departments this season.
Town Public Works staff assisted with leveling and packing portions of the school track to help improve drainage conditions ahead of their Section Track Meet in May.
The Davidson Housing Authority is currently seeking one additional board member. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community by volunteering your time and contributing to local housing initiatives. Contact Mayor Keith LePoudre, nominating chair at 639-844-7027 if you are interested.
Infrastructure
The Town will soon be issuing a tender for the sale of three commercial lots located on Railway Street. Watch for the upcoming posting and additional details.
We have continued to see misuse of the community compost pile. As a reminder, trees and branches are not accepted at the compost site, but can be taken to the landfill free of charge. Please help us keep this service available for everyone by using the compost pile responsibly and following the posted guidelines.
Spring street sweeping is now complete. We appreciate everyone who moved their vehicles to help facilitate the process.
Municipal Sewer has been in town continuing the annual sewer line flushing program, as well as camera inspections of sewer lines to help build and maintain our infrastructure condition assessment data.
Recreation and Cultural Programs
Panther Pool opens for the season on June 1st. Swimming lesson registrations are still being accepted online, at the Town Office, or at the Pool. Pool passes can be purchased at the Pool (cash or cheque only) or Town Office (cash/cheque/cards).
Davidson Days is coming up quick! Be sure to come out and celebrate our community June 19-21. Watch for details on the Town Facebook page and in the Davidson Leader.
If you have questions or would like more information on any of these projects, please contact the Town Office.
Congratulations on making it to the end of this month’s Council’s Corner! Email office@townofdavidson.com by June 8 to let us know you read the full update, and your name will be entered into a draw to win $10 in Davidson Dollars!
