In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
Thank you to the 165 individuals who participated in the Quality of Life survey! The results were presented to Council at the June 17th meeting, with infrastructure, housing, and business opportunities emerging as the top priorities. A summary of the survey findings will be available on our website soon.
Council members delivered lunches for the Davidson Health Centre “Meals on Wheels” program June 23-27.
Infrastructure
Council representatives have had ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Highways regarding Enterprise Lane and its intersection with Highway 11. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Ministry’s timeline and the anticipated realignment that would affect Enterprise Lane, Council was forced to postpone the rebuilding and paving of Enterprise Lane. On June 20th, the Ministry confirmed funding approval for the recommended interim safety improvements (right-turn ramps and intersection realignment) with construction planned for 2027. In the meantime, the Town continues to work with engineers and staff to maintain the road.
Council has approved the 2025 Operating & Capital Budget, which includes the following projects planned for this year: Sewage lift station upgrades – $340,000; water treatment plant and tower upgrades – $205,000; sewer main lining – $200,000; paving – $200,000; King Edward/Third Street drainage project – $44,100; Panther Pool boiler repair – $40,000; fire hydrant repairs – $40,000; grader repairs – $35,000; Town Hall upgrades – $30,000; and sidewalk improvements – $50,000.
Council approved repairs to the bases of five sewer manholes.
Paving has been approved for Washington Avenue and Grant Street, along with repair work in front of the school and near the Co-op Gas Station, at an estimated total cost of $200,000. The contractor also identified additional sections on Herman, Francis, and 1st Streets that will require excavation, geogrid installation, and base preparation before paving—these areas will need to be addressed in the future.
Economic Development
To help respond to housing inquiries, we are compiling a list of properties available for sale or rent. If you have a property in the Town that is for sale or rent, please contact the Town Office.
Recreation and Cultural Programs
In early June, the boiler at the Panther Pool failed, resulting in the unexpected closure of the facility. After reviewing options for repair or replacement, Council approved funding to repair the existing boiler. The pool is expected to reopen in late June or early July. Please watch the Town’s Facebook page for updates on the reopening.
For the second year in a row, weather affected our annual event—but that didn’t stop us from celebrating our community in style. Thanks to our strong community spirit and the dedication of many volunteers, the fireworks, indoor market, pancake breakfast, parade, and other planned activities went ahead as scheduled. Davidson Days would not be possible without support from various local groups and businesses such as the Skatepark Committee, Davidson Childcare Inc., Western Sales, Vaderstad, Affinity Credit Union, Riverbend Co-op and more.
If you have questions or would like more information on any of these projects, please contact the Town Office.
