In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
1. Engagement, Communications and Team Work
Council gave first and second readings to Bylaw No. 826 (Waste Bylaw) related to curbside garbage and recycling collection. If adopted at third reading, the bylaw will result in an increase of $0.91 per month for garbage service and $0.62 per month for recycling, reflecting rate increases from Loraas. Landfill rates will remain unchanged.
Council is in the process of consolidating eight water and sewer related bylaws into two updated bylaws:
Bylaw No. 827 – Water & Sewer Administrative Bylaw received first reading. This bylaw clarifies and updates language related to service connections, water meters, and billing processes, among other items. The overall intent remains largely unchanged from what is currently in place, with the exception that utility accounts will now be due within 30 days rather than 90 days.
Bylaw No. 828 – Water & Sewer Rates Bylaw also received first reading. The proposed rate adjustments are intended to keep pace with inflation and better reflect the rising costs of maintaining and upgrading water and sewer infrastructure. Following three readings by Council, an application will be submitted to the Saskatchewan Municipal Board for approval. If approved, the proposed increase for an average household using the minimum billing amount would be $76.80 per year. The last rate increase occurred in 2008 for sewer, 2015 for water, and 2016 for the infrastructure fee.
Anyone interested in reviewing these bylaws prior to further readings and adoption is encouraged to visit the Town of Davidson website under Town / Bylaws & Policies, or contact the Town Office directly.
Council encourages residents to review all bylaws directly on the Town’s website for accurate information, as search engines like Google can sometimes display AI-generated or outdated content that may not reflect our community’s regulations.
Council is actively collaborating with nursing staff at the Davidson Health Centre to advocate to the Provincial Government on staffing shortages and new graduate incentive programs, reinforcing that health care remains a top priority.
Infrastructure
Council approved the purchase of a John Deere 6430 equipped with a front PTO-driven Normand snowblower for $86,000. This equipment will be a valuable addition to the Public Works fleet.
