In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
Through careful management, Council was able to plan proactively and put aside $346,220 into reserves at the end of 2025 for future capital priorities.
Council gave final reading to Bylaw 826 (Waste Bylaw), resulting in an increase of $0.91 per month for garbage service and $0.62 per month for recycling, reflecting rate increases from Loraas. Landfill rates remain unchanged.
Council also gave final reading to Bylaws 827 & 828 regarding water and sewer. Utility accounts are now due within 30 days; rather than 90. The other changes, once approved by the Saskatchewan Municipal Board, are rate adjustments to keep pace with inflation and to better reflect the rising costs of maintaining and upgrading water and sewer infrastructure. For an average household using the minimum billing amount, the increase would be $76.80 per year. The last rate increase occurred in 2008 for sewer, 2015 for water, and 2016 for the infrastructure fee. Bylaws are posted on the Town of Davidson website under Town / Bylaws & Policies.
The Town of Davidson, in partnership with the Davidson Library and the Davidson Legion, has been awarded a $125,000 Enabling Accessibility Grant to support the Library elevator project. The construction tender has been awarded to Leeville Construction in the amount of $298,517 + taxes. Work is scheduled to commence May 6 and is expected to be completed by the end of August. This long-anticipated project reflects many years of planning and dedication by the Library Board, and we are pleased to see it now moving forward.
Family Literacy Day was celebrated at the AGT Centre with a Story Skate, in partnership with the Davidson Kinsmen, Davidson School, Davidson Library and the Town of Davidson. Families and students enjoyed four stories made by the Davidson School Grade 6 class, along with a fun activity, and snacks in the rink lobby. Thank you to Victoria Martin and her volunteers for organizing this wonderful annual event!
Infrastructure
The new tractor and snowblower proved to be a welcome addition during the recent snow storm. We also extend our sincere thanks to the contractors who stepped in to assist the Town, helping ensure our streets were cleared quickly and efficiently.
