In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
Our Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on August 20th gathered 85 kg of hazardous material. Organizers were pleased with the turnout, and we plan to make this an annual event.
We’re excited to welcome Bryce Dean and Ethan Schilling to our Public Works team, and Smit Rabari as our new janitor.
A warm welcome as well to Dr. Warren, who has recently moved to Davidson and will begin working at the Davidson and Craik clinics and Health Centres in October.
The crop has been harvested from our Community Land Project in partnership with the Davidson Kinsmen. A big thank you to the Kinsmen and all the volunteers who made this possible! The Town’s share of the profits will go toward operating and maintaining our recreation facilities.
Infrastructure
A new motor and pump have been installed at the water plant. After testing by the Fire Department and Public Works, we’re happy to confirm that our water system can deliver the pressure and supply needed in the event of a fire.
During our ongoing efforts to assess the condition of sewer mains, four areas were selected for relining this year. New Line Trenchless Technologies completed the work in August using the “cured-in-place pipe” method, which rehabilitates deep utility infrastructure without the need for excavation. The areas addressed this year included a section of Coxworth, the 300 block of Francis, the 300 block of Ottawa, and the alley between McGregor and Third. The total cost for this project was $180,000. This rehabilitation is expected to extend the service life of the sewer mains by over 50 years.
Economic Development
To help respond to housing inquiries, we are compiling a list of properties available for sale or rent. If you have a property in the Town that is for sale or rent, please contact the Town Office.
