In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
C4 Dust Control generously donated $1,566 to the Town, based on a percentage of the dust suppressant purchased over the last few years. Council has directed that the donation be used to support recreation expenses.
Highways have started the detailed design for the Enterprise Lane/Highway 11 project and will have surveyors and geotechnical drilling crews in the area over the next couple weeks.
Council donated a family pool pass to the Davidson Library Board to assist in their Fall fundraising activities.
Council renewed the three-year lease agreement for the land used in the joint Kinsmen/Town project. The 2025 project is complete, with the total profit being $25,237. Funds raised from the joint project are split equally between the Town and the Kinsmen Club. The Town earmarks their portion for recreation, with the Kinsmen using their portion to serve the community’s greatest need. Since 2011, this project has raised a total of $581,347 for our community!
Reminder: All correspondence, requests, or other materials intended for inclusion on a Council Meeting agenda must be submitted to the Administrator by 4:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the meeting. Council receives their meeting package in advance to review and prepare for the agenda items.
Infrastructure
Council is pursuing a grant under the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF) for a project that would include sewer re-lining, as well as sewer forcemain upgrades. Allnorth has been approved to provide the engineering support for the grant application.
Council approved the purchase of a snow gate attachment for the grader from Fer-Marc Equipment for $18,750 + freight and taxes.
Fire hydrants have been flushed and all have been repaired.
The Town received three loads of reclaimed asphalt from Highways which was used to stabilize Enterprise Lane, in addition to some patching in Town.
Fall street sweeping has been completed.
The next time you are out at the landfill, you will notice the landfill attendant shack has been relocated. Please remember to check in with the attendant each time you are out there; our Permit to Operate requires us to document all loads hauled to the landfill.
Recreation and Cultural Programs
Thanks to all those who joined us for Fall Friendship Night October 22nd to enjoy a meal (with amazing desserts), meet your neighbors and welcome those new to our community. We also recognized several individuals and groups who made significant contributions to our community over the past year. Many worthy citizens were nominated for this year’s awards which is a strong indicator of the community pride that exists in our community.
AGT Centre – the skating arena is open, and the final touches are being put on the curling ice as we gear up for another year at the rink. Public skating passes are available at the Town Office: $111 for a family pass; $55.50 for a single pass; or $2 for drop-in. There is also a drop box just outside the office at the rink.
