In Davidson Town Council’s Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency in municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on these strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
The Davidson Skatepark Committee attended the August Council Meeting to update Council on their fundraising efforts and express their desire to secure a site for the skatepark. Council approved a motion in support of both their ongoing fundraising initiatives and the proposed location, which will be situated northeast of the Panther Pool.
Representatives from the Davidson Avengers Cricket Club and the Davidson Travel Plaza also attended the August Council Meeting, presenting a proposal to build a cricket pitch south of ball diamond #4 and north of the riding arena. Council passed a motion in support of the proposal, contingent on an agreement being reached between the Town, Cricket Saskatchewan, and the local cricket team.
Council renewed the agreement with the Hanley Dance Club for continued use of the dance studio in the library basement.
A Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day was held on August 20 to support our community in safely disposing of hazardous materials. The event was well attended, and we look forward to offering it annually.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our summer staff for their hard work and commitment throughout the season. They have helped keep our facilities and programs running smoothly, and our town looking beautiful.
2. Infrastructure
Fire hydrant repairs have been completed, including the replacement of the hydrant near Panther Industries.
The lift station upgrade project (including electrical, ventilation, and a backup generator) is nearing completion, with final commissioning expected by mid-September.
Asphalt patching material has arrived, and Public Works staff will be completing street repairs as time and supply permit.
Virtue Constructing will once again be doing our fall street sweeping. Once dates are confirmed, we ask residents to assist in achieving a thorough clean by ensuring vehicles are removed from the streets.
Economic Development
Council approved a Sign Corridor Policy to revitalize and update the designated sign corridor on the east side of Highway #11, just south of town. According to the agreement with the Ministry of Highways, the corridor stretches 1,010 meters and can hold up to 27 signs. Businesses with signs currently in the corridor will be contacted this fall, and construction of the new signs is scheduled to begin in 2026.
