In Davidson Town Council’s 2022 Strategic Plan, one of the values identified was transparency of municipal decision making, finances, and communication. Council’s Corner will focus on four strategic priorities as it relates to the Strategic Action Plan:
Engagement, Communications and Team Work
Council and the Deputy Fire Chief met with the Department of Highways to discuss concerns with the entrances to the Town from Highway 11.
Members of Council also met with Environment Minister Dana Skoropad, MLA for Arm River to discuss waste disposal, Highway 11 issues, infrastructure needs and other local issues.
A joint meeting with Council’s and Admin Staff from the Town Council and R.M. of Willner and Arm River is scheduled for the end of March. Discussion topics include: waste disposal, vet clinic, medical and dental offices, airstrip, recreation and Highway 11 concerns.
Council passed the first reading of a new Cemetery Bylaw.
Surplus funds from the 2022 operational year have been put into reserves for use in future years.
Infrastructure
A Waste Management Open House on March 7 will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. The community is invited to come and discuss options and issues around waste management at any time during this session. Loraas will also be in attendance. Everyone is welcome to attend!
The Town will continue its sewer line flushing program for this fall. We typically do about 30% of the lines in town each year. Council is considering having a camera put down the sewer lines at the same time to get a condition assessment of those lines. Some of the problem areas identified from 2022 will be considered for relining in 2023.
Admin staff have been applying for grants to help cover some of the costs of Infrastructure repair and improvements.
Economic Development
Council completed first reading of the new Tax Incentive Bylaw. Once adopted, this bylaw will ensure a consistent process to support new commercial and residential development in Davidson.
Recreation and Cultural Programs
Admin staff have been meeting with MPE Engineering to finalize the AGT Addition Project. This project will go to tender in early March. Projected completion is the end of October.
Summer employment positions, including Public Works, Recreation and Swimming Pool positions are currently advertised.
Council is working on a solution to the ice buildup in front of the AGT Centre.
